The LIFE SCHOOL Concept promotes Experiential Learning in small teams pursuing their own interests at their individual speed. It’s a holistic approach of cross-subject learning and an excellent preparation for the International Baccalaureate (IB). At the same time it is guaranteed that the fundamental concepts related to the "core issues" of the Hessian Curricula Framework are fully covered and understood.
 
What distinguishes Experiential Learning from regular classroom instruction?
Learning takes place when the learner is personally engaged and allowed to discover. This is Experiential - discovery based - Learning.

  • First, discovery based learning is active and students must participate in hands-on and problem-solving activities rather than knowledge transfer.
  • The process is important instead of the end product and the lessons learned from a possible failure within this model of instruction encourage the student to continue to search for solutions.
  • Feedback is an essential part of the learning process. Discussions and questioning allows students to develop deeper understandings.
  • And: There is fun involved, because finally, discovery learning satisfies natural human curiosity and fills us with excitement.
  • Thus, students may become intrigued by learning more and digging deeper into the subject. The joy of discovery!
     
    Face to face with Challenges
    Experiential Learning is more than just doing activities in the field of interest. It involves discussing the activity, drawing conclusions from the activity, and applying them to the real world. This means: The students have to face and solve the challenges themselves, they make their own mistakes, and in this way can truly learn from it.
    Students are immersed and encouraged to build rich understandings. Their production is authentic and provides opportunities for development of unique talents.
